WHY DO I HAVE ROACHES?
Roaches are one of the most reviled insects in the world and are unfortunately a problem for homes and businesses in North Carolina. While they don't usually bite, cockroaches can still cause health problems for some people in an infested house or apartment. Some people can experience allergy and asthma symptoms from breathing in cockroach skin and waste.
If you think you have cockroaches, do not panic. Finding roaches is not a sign that your house is dirty. Even if you clean regularly and maintain a tidy home, cockroaches can usually find food and water without much trouble. This allows them to thrive in many environments.
Cockroaches are very resourceful insects that can enter your home in a number of different ways, including:
Crawling inside through small holes and cracks in the building.
Hitching a ride on bags, backpacks, suitcases and other containers.
Finding openings around doors and windows.
Moving from one apartment to another through pipes and other holes in shared walls.

The German cockroach is the most common type of roach found invading homes and businesses. They are very invasive, squeezing their bodies through the tiniest of cracks to invade structures. Adult German cockroaches grow to between ½ and 5/8th of an inch in length. Their flat bodies are light brown or tan in color and have two distinctive black stripes running horizontally down behind their head. While both female and male German roaches have wings, they rarely fly. Instead they are very fast runners and that’s how they travel.
Adult brown-banded cockroaches grow to about ½ of an inch in length. They are light brown in color, and as their name suggests they have very distinctive banding going across their wings.
